norwegian bridges

The Askøy bridge is the newer of the two bridges which join the islands south of Bergen to the mainland. The suspension bridge deck is of the box girder type, similar to the Humber bridge in England. The bridge is tolled in one direction only!

The suspension cables are lit at night making an impressive sight for shipping entering Bergen harbour.

Built in 1992, the main span is 850m and the overall length of the bridge 1057m. The sailing height clearance is 62m.
